Menlo Park's Alpine Little League All-Star team faced elimination in the West Region tournament, losing 11-0 to Fullerton's Golden Hill Little League. The match ended the season for the Northern California champions. Golden Hill's pitcher Gavin Janicke led with 14 strikeouts. The score remained 0-0 until the fourth inning when Fullerton scored three runs. They built on this momentum to secure a decisive victory, moving on to the final against Hawaii for a chance at the Little League World Series.
Gavin Janicke struck out a tournament-high 14 batters as Fullerton's 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars ran away with a lopsided victory in the unofficial California championship game. Janicke entered in the second inning and proceeded to strike out 14 of the next 18 batters he faced, allowing just one hit and one walk.
Golden Hill loaded the bases again off Alpine starter Max Turner before Jake Morris earned another walk to plate Yun with a third run for a 3-0 lead.
