
"MENLO PARK - San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies arrested two men during a traffic stop Friday morning in Menlo Park who were reportedly in possession of an explosive device, as well as stolen guns and tools from another burglary, according to officials. Deputies stopped the two men reportedly in a "suspicious vehicle" traveling northbound on Interstate 280 onto Sand Hill Road, according to the Sheriff's Office."
"Deputies searched the vehicle and found Marin in possession of an illegal explosive device, as well as two stolen rifles registered to a Santa Cruz County resident that was reported missing in a residential burglary the previous night, police said. Vaquedano was on probation for robbery and was prohibited from possessing firearms, authorities said. Deputies also allegedly found other stolen property, including several stolen tools, in the vehicle, according to the Sheriff's Office."
San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies stopped a suspicious vehicle in Menlo Park and arrested two men after discovering an illegal explosive device, two stolen rifles and several stolen tools. Jose E. Matute Vaquedano, 25, drove without a license and was on probation for robbery; Mauricio Peralta Marin, 27, rode as a passenger and was found with the explosive device. The rifles were registered to a Santa Cruz County resident and had been reported missing after a residential burglary the previous night. Both men were booked on multiple charges including possession of firearms by a prohibited person, possession of stolen property, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools, possession of an explosive device, and driving without a license. Sheriff Ken Binder said every gun taken off the street is a potential life saved. Binder replaced former Sheriff Christina Corpus after county supervisors ousted her amid misconduct allegations.
