"MENDOCINO, Calif. (KGO) -- Christmas came early for a Mendocino fisherman who likely reeled in a state, and maybe world, record catch. On Tuesday, Brendan Walsh landed a 10.25-pound canary rock fish near the Albion River Harbor in Mendocino County. For reference, the average weight of a canary rock fish is around 2 to 5 pounds. According to Walsh, the weather was beginning to change and he made one last cast before heading back in."
""Normally those fish don't get that big," he said. "So normally I let them go. They're actually a fairly rare fish and they're usually a little smaller than that, not even eating size. So it was pretty shocking." Walsh filled out forms to verify his fish for both a state and world record catch. He is now waiting for validation."
Brendan Walsh landed a 10.25-pound canary rock fish near the Albion River Harbor in Mendocino County. The average canary rock fish weighs about 2 to 5 pounds, making the catch unusually large. Walsh said the weather was beginning to change and he made one last cast before heading back in. He noted that canary rock fish are fairly rare, typically smaller and often not even considered eating size, so the size was shocking. Walsh completed forms to submit the catch for state and world record verification and is now awaiting official validation.
