"SACRAMENTO A medical helicopter crashed Monday night on a Sacramento freeway, critically injuring the pilot and two passengers, according to fire officials. The crash happened just after 7 p.m. on Highway 50, Sacramento fire Capt. Justin Sylvia said during a televised news conference. One of the victims was trapped under the wreckage, Sylvia said, adding that a fire captain mustered bystanders to help lift part of the helicopter off the person so they could be rescued."
"The victims identified as a pilot, nurse and paramedic were taken to area hospitals in critical condition, Sylvia said. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. We're extremely lucky there were only three victims, he said. It's unfortunate they're in critical condition. Sylvia said the helicopter did not catch fire, which would have complicated the effort. Highway 50 was closed at 59th Street following the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol. Around 10:15 p.m., the CHP announced the left lane was open."
