A suspect was recorded cutting copper cable from Caltrain tracks early Sunday morning and deputies arrested a 24-year-old. The suspect has two prior felony convictions and recently served six months in jail for stealing tools. The Sheriff's Office reported about 50 feet of cable was cut from beneath the train tracks, with repairs estimated at $5,000. Riders at South San Francisco station were relieved service was not disrupted and expressed concern about thefts going unnoticed. Sacramento County Sheriff's Office and VTA have increased rail policing after similar incidents. The suspect will appear in court January 22.
