Man arrested after allegedly injuring two UC Berkeley officers with sharp weapon
"Just before 8 p.m., university police were called to the area near the Greek Theatre on UC Berkeley's campus for a report of a man "acting aggressively" with a "knife or metal object," police said in a statement Thursday. Officers found the man carrying "sharp-edged weapons" but said he did not listen to their commands and continued to walk toward the South Campus neighborhood."
"Police continued to follow the man and used a Taser and pepper spray, according to the statement, but both methods were "ineffective." The officers then used foam baton rounds, the statement said, which also did not subdue the man. At one point, two UC officers were struck by an "edged weapon," resulting in non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Officers seized at least six sharp weapons in connection with the event, photos from UC police and shared with SFGATE show."
"Both officers were taken to a local hospital, treated and released. The man, whose identity has not been released, was detained at the intersection of Derby Street and Hillegass Avenue and was taken to a local hospital to be medically evaluated. He is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon, battery on a police officer, resisting or delaying a peace officer, threatening an official and possessing illegal weapons."
