Los Gatos's projected budget deficit is now a surplus
"History would say we project deficits and end with surpluses,"
"continue to engage community service providers to meet the individualized and complex needs of unhoused residents, while pursuing a more coordinated regional approach."
"pursue tangible bicycle and pedestrian improvements and explore innovative pilot solutions to mitigate traffic congestion."
Los Gatos now projects a $4.3 million surplus for the fiscal year, reversing an earlier $3.1 million deficit projection. Staff attributed the change to savings from staffing vacancies, higher interest earnings, and deferred maintenance, while warning that filling vacancies or higher overtime could reduce savings. The council amended strategic priorities to address homelessness by engaging community service providers and pursuing a coordinated regional approach, and to tackle transportation by pursuing bicycle and pedestrian improvements and pilot solutions for congestion. Council prioritized a downtown public bathroom. The Poulenc Trio will perform at Los Gatos High School Theatre on Feb. 22.
