"For many years, the Walnut Festival has been positive for the city, Buckshi said. It is not only fun for children and families, but it also draws people to Walnut Creek and helps to stimulate our local economy, said Buckshi in an email to this news organization."
Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek, which hosted the Walnut Festival since 1976, is undergoing construction for a new aquatic and community center expected to last two years. Festival organizers searched Concord, Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, and Martinez for an alternative site but found only the Antioch Fairgrounds provided sufficient space for more than 15 carnival rides and other attractions. Event director Tammy Lagomarsino said keeping the festival close to Walnut Creek was a priority but space needs dictated the move. Some community members criticized the relocation as too distant. Walnut Creek City Manager Dan Buckshi noted the festival’s longstanding positive economic and family-oriented benefits.
