""The issue is, of course, the roads still have snow and ice on them, and I think the temperature is going to be pretty cold Friday and Saturday, so anybody coming up to the mountains from the Bay Area should just plan for some extra time," Smallcomb said. "Even if it's not still snowing, the roads might still be icy and slippery.""
""I wouldn't be surprised""
""Through the weekend, [the weather] is supposed to be a lot better than it has been for the last few days," McConnell said. "But having said that, we expect pretty heavy traffic volumes coming up 80 from the Bay Area and Sacramento, because everybody's gonna wanna go skiing, snowboarding.""
Snow is waning after a deadly snowstorm that closed resorts and left thousands without power. Another snowstorm moved into the region on Thursday, but weather conditions are expected to clear by the weekend. Roads will still have snow and ice and temperatures are forecast near freezing, with wind chill between minus 5 and minus 10 degrees in the greater Tahoe area. Chain controls may still be in effect Friday morning. Caltrans crews with snowplows will continue clearing highways, and heavy traffic volumes are expected on Interstate 80 and Highway 50 as skiers and snowboarders travel to Tahoe. No lane closures are scheduled near Sacramento this weekend.
