Interstate 80 near Alta, California, is closed in both directions following two separate big-rig crashes. The first big rig crashed and spilled oil and gas onto the roadway. An Amazon Prime big rig then drove through the spill and subsequently crashed. The California Highway Patrol indicated lanes will remain closed for an extended period due to oil contamination on the road surface. Emergency responders reported minor injuries from the incidents. Cleanup, hazardous-material mitigation, and accident investigation are expected to keep the highway closed until crews can ensure the roadway is safe for traffic.
