Hwy. 1 overnight closure at Rocky Creek marks start of demobilization
"Caltrans will conduct another full overnight closure of Highway 1 at Rocky Creek Bridge this Sunday as work continues on the seawall repair job due to the Rocky Creek slip out that occurred more than a year ago. The closure will occur about 12 miles south of Carmel beginning on Sunday at 10 p.m., with Highway 1 reopening at the site Monday at 6 a.m. The overnight closure marks the start of demobilization following the completion of major concrete placement work as part of the ongoing emergency seawall repair project beneath the Rocky Creek Bridge, according to Caltrans."
"The repairs strengthen the seawall's ability to resist wave action and prevent future erosion, ensuring the long-term stability of this critical coastal route. During the closure, a crane and other heavy equipment will be staged across both lanes, and no through traffic will be allowed during work hours, says Caltrans. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and avoid the area during the closure period. Caltrans continues emergency repairs to Highway 1 near the Rocky Creek Bridge post mile 60 where the slip out occurred on March 20, 2024. The repairs include the construction of viaducts under both lanes of the roadway, which have been completed, and reconstruction of the seawall below, which is ongoing."
Caltrans will perform a full overnight closure of Highway 1 at Rocky Creek Bridge Sunday night, reopening Monday morning, to begin demobilization after major concrete placement. The closure is about 12 miles south of Carmel and will stage cranes and heavy equipment across both lanes with no through traffic during work hours. Repairs aim to strengthen the seawall against wave action and prevent future erosion. Viaducts under both lanes have been completed; seawall reconstruction is ongoing following the March 20, 2024 slip out that removed part of the southbound lane. One-way signalized traffic remains in place and additional closures may be scheduled with advance notice.
