Hungry mountain lion trapped in SoCal family's backyard after raiding henhouse
""There was a big hole on the rooftop and there were chickens missing and there were feathers all over the place,""
""We weren't really happy about that because of our children and animals,""
""we do have that fear it will come back.""
""And I walk the property in the evening to check on my animals, and who knows if it's watching me. It could be lurking behind a building, a bush, anything.""
The Hernandez family in Fallbrook discovered several henhouse chickens and four cats missing and found a large hole in the coop roof with feathers scattered. The family built a homemade trap believing a coyote was responsible and then found a mountain lion inside. The family called 911 and wildlife officials arrived the next day to release the mountain lion back into the same area, as California law requires privately trapped mountain lions be set free where caught. Neighbors expressed concern for children, pets, and horses and feared the cougar could return because of available food sources.
