Law enforcement, including highway patrol officers, will be deployed to multiple California locations to fight crime. San Francisco and Oakland are included among Bay Area cities in the deployment. Additional locations include Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, the Central Valley and the Inland Empire. The deployment builds on a statewide operation that has resulted in over 9,000 arrests. The effort represents an expansion of an existing, large-scale crime-fighting operation. The announcement follows an earlier statement proposing possible National Guard deployment to curb crime that specifically named Oakland.

"We're gonna be expanding this operation. Building on the success that has now included over 9,000 arrests statewide," Newsom said.
Thursday's announcement comes about two weeks after Pres. Donald Trump said he could deploy the National Guard to help curb crime.
