"Los Angeles World Airports, the body that oversees Los Angeles International Airport, announced plans this week for the "complete demolition" of Terminal 5 at LAX. The move, which formally kicked off on Tuesday, Oct. 21, will see multiple airlines shift core operations to other terminals, forcing passengers and crew to follow suit. The phased-in relocations will take about a week in total, with Terminal 5 shutting down entirely by Tuesday, Oct. 28."
""The closure of Terminal 5 marks a pivotal moment in our journey to deliver a world-class airport experience," LAWA chief airport operations and maintenance officer Doug Webster said in a news release. "Our goal is to minimize disruption during this transition, and we are working closely with our airline partners to ensure continued operations and smooth travel for our passengers.""
"Spirit Airlines, routinely one of the lowest-cost flight options, has had to shift from Terminal 5 to Terminal 2 for check-in, where passengers will then be bussed to Terminal B (the Tom Bradley International Terminal West Gates) for departure. JetBlue has shifted from Terminal 5 to Terminal 1, and American Airlines is slated to move over to Terminal 4 starting Oct. 28."
Terminal 5 at Los Angeles International Airport is undergoing complete demolition, with closure operations beginning Oct. 21 and full shutdown by Oct. 28. Multiple airlines will shift core operations to other terminals over a weeklong phased relocation. Spirit Airlines moved check-in to Terminal 2 and will bus passengers to Terminal B for departures. JetBlue moved to Terminal 1, and American Airlines will relocate to Terminal 4 beginning Oct. 28. A newly completed satellite concourse at the Tom Bradley International Terminal West Gates adds eight departure gates and 150,000 square feet but increases walking distances. LAWA is working with airline partners to minimize disruption.
