A $33 million campground and beach access project will soon start at Fort Ord Dunes State Park, previously an Army base. Located along Monterey Bay, the campground construction is set for two years, featuring tent sites, RV sites, and walk-in campsites. Part of the nearby recreation trail will be detoured. The project is funded in part by Proposition 84 and aims to enhance coastal access. Facilities will include a campfire center pavilion and a visitor center, with plans for a coastal dune habitat transformation as construction progresses.
The new campground at Fort Ord Dunes State Park will cost $33 million and will include 43 tent campsites, 45 RV campsites, and 10 walk-in or bike-in campsites.
Construction on the campground begins this summer, lasting for two years, including a detour of part of the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail during the construction.
