"A man fleeing a Sacramento-area home where a child had been killed was fatally shot Tuesday by a California Highway Patrol officer. The man was identified as Marvin Morales, 40 the child's father and a former Sacramento County sheriff's deputy. According to police in Elk Grove, a woman called them just after 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, to say she was worried about the safety of her two children, who were at home with their father."
"When officers arrived at the home, they found that an 11-year-old child had been stabbed. A 6-year-old was unharmed. Morales was not at the house. A car believed to be Morales' was spotted by a law enforcement officer on southbound Interstate 5, and the CHP picked up the pursuit. South of Highway 12, as it approached Stockton, the car hit spike strips laid down by the CHP, and it crashed."
"After the crash, a CHP officer fatally shot Morales. The agency did not release details of the shooting, including whether Morales was thought to be armed. The Elk Grove Police Department will lead the investigation into the shooting. The 11-year-old child, meanwhile, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Morales resigned from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office in 2024 after an internal affairs report determined he ingested fentanyl taken from a suspect."
