"We strongly oppose Proposition 50, which seeks to dismantle the voter-approved California Citizens Redistricting Commission and reinstate partisan gerrymandering - a flawed process rejected by Californians through Proposition 11 (2008) and Proposition 20 (2010)."
"As elected district attorneys, we are committed to upholding public trust through transparency, fairness, and the rule of law,"
"Partisan gerrymandering is fundamentally wrong, regardless of who perpetrates it or where it occurs. Two wrongs do not make a right,"
"undermines democracy by prioritizing politicians' power instead of preserving voter-approved reforms that improve community representation."
Thirty California district attorneys oppose Proposition 50, which would temporarily change how California draws congressional districts ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Signers include Solano County D.A. Krishna Abrams, Napa County D.A. Allison Haley, and Yolo County D.A. Jeff Reisig. The D.A.s describe Proposition 50 as undermining democracy by prioritizing politicians' power over voter-approved reforms and say it would dismantle the California Citizens Redistricting Commission and reinstate partisan gerrymandering previously rejected by Proposition 11 (2008) and Proposition 20 (2010). Supporters frame the measure as a response to Texas redistricting; a special election is imminent. Abrams was reported out of office attending a conference and could not be reached for comment.
