Steven Taylor was killed in a San Leandro Walmart in 2020 and an officer was charged in the case. Five years later, Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson filed a motion to dismiss the prosecution, citing the age of the case and concerns about witness availability. A judge previously denied two dismissal motions; the new motion will be heard by a different judge while the prior judge is on vacation. Family members and activists called the dismissal attempt a betrayal and alleged backdoor dealing. Family plans to continue pursuing a jury trial and justice for Taylor.
