"An ultra-popular hiking trail in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park has finally reopened after one of its wooden bridges was destroyed by a winter storm in 2023, California State Parks announced. Pfeiffer Falls Trail, a short, 0.75-mile trail through a redwood forest that leads to a 60-foot waterfall, has reopened after lengthy repairs were made to its pedestrian bridge, California State Parks wrote in a press release Monday."
"The newly repaired bridge spans the Pfeiffer Redwood Creek ravine and provides hikers with "a dramatic vantage surrounded by redwood trees," California State Parks wrote. Its reconstruction was completed over one and a half years through a partnership with California State Parks, the California Conservation Corps and Save the Redwoods League, a San Francisco-based environmental group. Most of the original bridge was saved during the repair process, according to California State Parks, though 15 feet of it was replaced with new materials."
Pfeiffer Falls Trail in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park reopened after lengthy repairs to its pedestrian bridge that was destroyed by a January 2023 winter storm when a redwood tree fell on part of the structure. The 0.75-mile trail winds through a redwood forest to a 60-foot waterfall and ranks among the park's most popular attractions. The trail previously closed after the 2008 Basin Complex Fire, underwent substantial renovation in 2017, and reopened in 2021 before the bridge destruction forced another closure. Reconstruction took about one and a half years with California State Parks, the California Conservation Corps and Save the Redwoods League. Most of the original bridge was reused, with 15 feet replaced.
