DNA Evidence Leads to Arrest in 1977 Murder of San Mateo Woman
Briefly

The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office has charged Willie Eugene Sims, a 69-year-old man from Ohio, for the 1977 murder of Jeanette Ralston. DNA and fingerprints from a cigarette pack linked Sims to the crime. Ralston was found strangled to death shortly after leaving a bar. The Cold Case Unit, established in 2011, helped resolve this case along with over 30 others. If found guilty, Sims could face 25 years to life imprisonment. District Attorney Jeff Rosen emphasized advancements in forensic science in solving cold cases.
"Every day, forensic science grows better, and every day criminals are closer to being caught. Cases may grow old and be forgotten by the public. We don't forget and we don't give up."
"The case was solved because of collaboration between the San Jose Police Homicide Unit and the DA's Cold Case Unit. The Cold Case Unit was established in 2011."
