Cupertino will host a bell ringing ceremony on August 6 to commemorate victims of the Toyokawa Naval Arsenal bombing in World War II. This event marks the 80 years of peace following the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Toyokawa Naval Arsenal was crucial for the Japanese military, targeted by the US on August 7, 1945, resulting in significant civilian casualties. Additionally, a new initiative for the city's pickleball courts will require players to use quieter equipment during early morning and later evening hours to minimize noise disruptions.
The annual bell ringing ceremony is being organized by Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister Cities Inc. to commemorate 80 years of peace since the bombing of Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Toyokawa.
Beginning Aug. 1, signage will be posted at courts asking players to use quiet-category paddles and balls-certified by USA Pickleball-from dawn to 9 a.m. and 7-9 p.m. daily.
