CHP plane catches two suspected copper wire thieves in the act near high-speed rail overpass
"The rope that they tossed over Mountain View is now tied to the hitch of the truck they're trying to drive away with it pulling down other wires with it."
"We flew over it and saw it. Normally people wouldn't be there at that time if they were workers; they didn't have any ladders or things like that."
"You have the handheld over there right next to the keyboard, that's what we use to control the camera. Kind of like a control video game sort of thing."
California Highway Patrol air operations detected a copper wire theft in progress near a high-speed rail overpass in Fresno using infrared cameras. Officers observed a truck with a rope tied to its hitch, pulling down copper wire from the overpass. Ground units were directed to the scene, where the suspects quickly surrendered. The suspects, identified as Jason Matthew Walker Sr. and Bryan Charles Boreliz, managed to pull 15 to 25 feet of copper wire before being apprehended. Copper theft remains a significant concern for authorities.
