The Tesla driver stayed on scene to cooperate with investigators. CHP is determining if the Tesla had autopilot on at the time of the collision. As a result of the crash, the three left lanes of the interstate have been closed."

The officer had been dispatched to retrieve an electric leaf blower lodged between the two left lanes. The officer performed a traffic break by swerving to slow motorists so he could retrieve the blower when the Tesla struck him. The officer was ejected, taken to hospital, and is suffering major but non-life-threatening injuries. The Tesla driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. CHP is determining whether the vehicle's autopilot was engaged. Three left lanes of the interstate were closed after the crash.
