Car drives onto active taxiway at O.C. airport; driver is hospitalized, official says
""drove a vehicle into an airport taxiway at a high rate of speed,""
""There's a high-speed chase on the taxiway,""
""The individual was evaluated on scene and determined to be experiencing a possible medical emergency,""
""hold position.""
On Dec. 8 at about 1:12 p.m., a contract security guard assigned to a checkpoint drove a vehicle onto a John Wayne Airport taxiway at a high rate of speed. Video showed a white sedan speeding near parked aircraft while an air traffic controller told a Southwest plane to hold position and remarked there was a high-speed chase on the taxiway. Orange County sheriff's deputies detained the driver and the Orange County Fire Authority conducted a medical assessment. The individual was evaluated and determined to be experiencing a possible medical emergency, hospitalized, and suspended from the job. Airport operations continued on schedule.
