More than 17,000 California commercial driver's licenses issued to immigrants were revoked as the state moved to comply with federal rules requiring licenses to expire when an immigrant's legal status ends. The revocations followed an August Florida crash in which an immigrant commercial driver allegedly entered the U.S. illegally and caused a crash that killed three people. Federal prosecutors allege that driver had been granted commercial licenses in multiple states. The Trump administration audited California, threatened to withhold about $200 million in funding, and delayed other state audits due to a government shutdown.
