California man finds bear living in crawl space underneath home: 'He's been in and out all week'

"It looked just like my crawl space, so I thought, 'There's possibly a way,' Next thing I know, my camera picks up a bear crawling out from under the crawl space - and now he's been in and out all week."

"I went to replace the batteries and this huge growl came from underneath the space and scared me to death. I couldn't stop shaking. It's the strangest sound, too. It's like a roar but it's got this hiss on it too, like a dragon. I mean, it's just incredible, and coming out from underneath that space, it just reverberates even more ... just horrible."

Ken Johnson, a product photographer in Altadena, discovered a large bear living in the crawl space beneath his house after reviewing surveillance footage. Johnson installed a camera after noticing torn-up bricks and a ripped frame in June. Johnson recognized similarities to a prior YouTube case and captured footage of a bear exiting the crawl space; the bear has been entering and leaving repeatedly. The animal resides directly under the kitchen and produces audible movement. Johnson heard a frightening growl while replacing camera batteries and contacted the California Department of Fish and Wildlife; a San Diego biologist will investigate.
