California gas prices steadily decline ahead of record Thanksgiving travel
"De Haan described the recent trend as a "slow and steady decline." Though fuel prices are on average three cents higher per gallon than this time last year, he said, there is a significant amount of gasoline being imported to the West Coast, which is expected to push prices down. One of the main reasons the prices are also going down is because of refinery issues finally subsiding and demand for fuel is typically down in the winter months."
"In the Bay Area, several counties, including San Francisco, San Mateo, Contra Costa and Marin, are averaging at about $4.50 per gallon. Meanwhile, Santa Clara, Alameda and Solano counties are averaging $4.39, $4.46, and $4.42 per gallon, respectively. The most expensive gas is in the North Bay, with an average of $4.60 per gallon in Sonoma County and $4.69 per gallon in Napa County."
The state's average price for a gallon of regular gas is $4.57, down from $4.64 a week earlier. Prices are expected to dip further through the weekend as gasoline imports to the West Coast increase and refinery disruptions subside. Demand for fuel typically falls in winter months, contributing to downward pressure on prices. Current prices remain about three cents higher per gallon than a year ago. Approximately 81.8 million people nationwide are expected to travel at least 50 miles during the Nov. 25–Dec. 1 holiday period. County-level averages vary, with North Bay counties among the most expensive and Central Valley among the cheapest.
