California expands its electric school bus fleet as federal freeze paused efforts elsewhere
Briefly

California's Governor Gavin Newsom announced a $500 million initiative to introduce 1,000 electric school buses to over 130 rural and disadvantaged school districts. This expansion, which also includes the addition of 500 new charging stations, is critical as many districts nationwide face uncertainty over federal funding for electric buses. California leads the U.S. in electric school bus adoption, having invested over $1.3 billion in the initiative to reduce children's exposure to toxic diesel pollution and support environmental goals.
"California is committed to continuing efforts to reduce children's exposure to toxic diesel pollution through the deployment of zero-emission school buses," Liane Randolph said.
"State funding is especially critical as schools grapple with the rollback of federal support," Randolph added.
