California elementary school evacuated during SWAT standoff at nearby home
"A SWAT standoff with a person holed up inside a Ramona home Wednesday prompted the evacuation of a nearby elementary school with students being relocated to a Montessori school about a mile away, authorities said. The Sheriff's Office said in a post on X that Hanson Elementary School students could be picked up by their parents at the Ramona Community Montessori School on Ramona Street."
"They evacuated the school just to be extra, extra cautious, said Lt. Jessica Boegler. Boegler said deputies initially responded to a house on Royal Vista Drive shortly before 9:20 a.m. after someone asked them to check on the welfare of a person in the home. After several hours, SWAT officers were deployed to the scene. Sheriff's deputies were being assisted by Escondido police. A sheriff's crisis negotiation team was also sent."
