California couple arrested, accused of trafficking asylum-seeking immigrants
Briefly

Carolina Rojas and Jairo John Gastelo from Simi Valley were arrested for allegedly exploiting Latin American asylum-seekers by coercing them into domestic labor. From November 2021 to March 2024, they recruited these foreign nationals, offering assistance for entry into the U.S. Upon arrival, victims worked without pay, performing childcare and other tasks. Rojas even arranged jobs for them while collecting their wages to cover debts. She allegedly provided fraudulent documents to help them secure employment, leading to serious federal charges including forced labor and trafficking violations.
Rojas is also accused of helping victims obtain fraudulent Social Security cards and permanent resident cards in order to secure employment.
They reportedly forced the victims to provide around-the-clock childcare for a child with special needs and perform other domestic labor.
