Cal Maritime officially merges with Cal Poly
Briefly

Cal Maritime Academy has officially merged with Cal Poly University, marking its transition to Cal Poly Maritime Academy. This results from a California State University Board of Trustees vote to integrate the two institutions, scheduled for completion by the 2026-27 academic year. The merger is driven by a significant enrollment decline at Cal Maritime and aims to enhance collaboration and operational efficiency. Campus leaders will oversee the transition, including a shift from a quarter to a semester academic year. The new mascot is not yet decided, reflecting elements from both schools' previous identities.
On Tuesday morning the colors of green and navy blue merged with gold as Cal Maritime Academy officially became Cal Poly Maritime Academy, following a California State University Board of Trustees vote.
The integration will be complete by the start of the 2026-27 academic year, facilitating a new collaboration between the former Cal Maritime and Cal Poly.
Cal Maritime has experienced a 31 percent enrollment decline over the last seven years, prompting the need for merger to address fiscal issues.
There are 81 members of faculty and 176 staff at Cal Maritime, with an annual budget of $53 million contributing to its fiscal crisis.
