"The Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) has historically scored higher overall on these tests than students as a whole in Alameda County and across the state, and this year's results continued that trend. Last year, 72% of BUSD students met or exceeded English standards (up 5% from 2022) and 66% did so in math. By comparison, 56% of students in all of Alameda County met or exceeded English standards and 48% did so in math."
"This is one measure that we use to assess our students' progress in learning, but it is very important, Superintendent Enikia Ford Morthel said Wednesday during a BUSD school board meeting. There is a lot of funding and other important things that are aligned to this particular assessment, and we are excited to share with you where we are and where we're going."
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) results released Oct. 9 show Berkeley Unified student proficiency in math and English rose for the third consecutive year and continues to exceed county and state averages. Seventy-two percent of BUSD students met or exceeded English standards and 66% met or exceeded math standards. Alameda County results were 56% in English and 48% in math, while statewide rates were 49% and 37%. The district emphasized the assessment's role in funding and planning and examined results with particular attention to Black and Latino student outcomes.
