Bonta says millions spent, but billions saved, in California's legal war with Trump
Briefly

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced that over the past six months, his office has spent more than $5 million fighting the Trump administration in court, saving the state nearly $170 billion. This financial return amounts to $33,600 saved for every dollar spent on legal efforts. Bonta's office has launched 37 lawsuits and filed 47 amicus briefs since Trump took office. Notably, a successful lawsuit halted a Trump initiative that threatened $168 billion in federal funding to California. Bonta emphasized the rapid legal response to protect the state budget and infrastructure funding.
Bonta said his office has spent more than $5 million fighting the Trump administration in court over the last six months, but saved the state nearly $170 billion.
Bonta's calculations are based on a mountain of litigation his office has filed against the administration since President Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, including 37 lawsuits.
Just to put it in perspective, if you told a Wall Street investor they'd get a $33,000 return on every one dollar invested, they would trip over themselves to get in on that deal.
In his first week in office, President Trump went after a full-third of California's budget - and we went to court less than 24 hours later and stopped him in his tracks.
