Erica Fox, 55, vanished while swimming just after noon on Dec. 21 off Lovers Point in Pacific Grove. She was swimming with members of the Kelp Krawlers, an open water group she helped start two decades ago. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a shark in the area and one witness told law enforcement they saw a shark breach the water with what appeared to be a human body in its mouth. Pacific Grove police said they believe a shark was involved based on witness statements. A body was located south of Davenport, about 30 miles from Lovers Point. Cal Fire used a rope system to move the remains up the bluffs. Monterey County, Pacific Grove, and Santa Cruz agencies are coordinating the recovery and the investigation remains ongoing.
