Opening day at Santa Anita was delayed two days by heavy rain. Bob Baffert captured three stakes on the card, winning the Grade 2 Laffit Pincay Jr. Stakes and two Grade 1 races, the La Brea with Usha and the Malibu with Goal Oriented. Nysos and Nevada Beach ran one-two in the Pincay, with Nysos edging Nevada Beach by a head under Flavien Prat over Juan Hernandez. Nysos entered as the 1-5 favorite, a Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile champion with one loss in seven starts. The announced crowd was 41,962, the largest Santa Anita opening day since 2016. Nevada Beach is a 3-year-old Goodwood Stakes winner, and the finish echoed the earlier Dirt Mile rivalry.
