Berkeley to close roads on Fourth of July, citing fire risk
Briefly

In Berkeley, all fireworks are prohibited, including those deemed safe and sane, due to heightened fire risks. On July 4, certain streets will close for 24 hours, starting at 5 a.m. The closures aim to reduce fire hazards and manage crowds, particularly along Grizzly Peak Boulevard. Residents are urged to turn in any found fireworks to local fire stations for disposal. Unauthorized discharge of fireworks can be reported to the police department. Some recreational areas, like the UC Botanical Gardens, will also be closed for safety during the holiday.
Fireworks, including those marketed as safe and sane, are illegal in Berkeley, Oakland, and East Bay parks due to fire risks in dry areas.
The city is closing certain streets in the Berkeley and Oakland hills from 5 a.m. on July 4 to mitigate fire hazards during the Fourth of July holiday.
Residents are encouraged to report any fireworks usage to the Berkeley Police non-emergency dispatch or contact Oakland authorities to report violations.
All turnouts will be closed on the closed streets, but ride-share, delivery, and resident access will still be permitted.
