Bay Area woman who killed mother live on Facebook ordered to state hospital
"Tonantzyn Oris Beltran, 30, went on trial last fall in Marin County Superior Court for fatally stabbing Olivia Beltran. Last month a jury found her not guilty by reason of insanity. Following the verdict, Judge Geoffrey Howard said he planned to have the defendant placed in custody at a state hospital. He issued his order on Wednesday. Hopefully she will receive the mental health treatment that she should've received a long time ago, said Beltran's attorney, Jon Rankin."
"The homicide happened in 2024 at the victim's apartment on Cresta Way in northern San Rafael. Police found Beltran holding a knife and standing next to her mortally wounded mother. The defendant had streamed the attack live on Facebook. The Marin County District Attorney's Office charged her with murder. Beltran's family pressed for an insanity finding. During Beltran's four-week trial, the defense outlined her long history of mental illness that included multiple hospitalizations and diagnoses of schizoaffective disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder."
