Chris Bell died Tuesday morning at age 41 from job-related occupational cancer. He is survived by his parents, his wife, and three daughters. Bell grew up in Vallejo and entered firefighting through a youth Explorer program. He joined Fairfield Fire Department in 2003 as a Reserve Firefighter, became a full-time firefighter in October 2007, and was promoted to fire engineer in April 2013. He served on the department's Urban Search and Rescue Team and retired on Nov. 10 last year after more than two decades of service. Fairfield will lower flags to half-staff and firefighters will wear mourning bands; memorial details will be coordinated with his family.
