AVX Networks received $37.5 million in federal funding through the California Public Utilities Commission Last Mile Federal Funding Account Grant program to install submarine fiber linking Huntington Beach to Catalina Island. The infrastructure will provide high-capacity broadband to roughly 3,700–4,400 year-round residents across about 1,200 housing units, including a significant Hispanic or Latino population. Expanded connectivity will enable telework, telehealth, and education, reduce geographic isolation, and support workforce mobility and economic participation.
