Fremont cleared a homeless encampment at Isherwood Park to allow maintenance, vegetation removal, and improvements for fire safety, waterway protection, and accessibility. The park closed temporarily starting Monday, with a full closure for residents beginning Nov. 14 and expected to last through early 2026. More than three dozen people had been living at the site; about 40 individuals were offered shelter by city staff, who plan phased moves into shelters over the next two weeks and assistance toward permanent housing. One resident who had stayed for five years described the move as highly emotional. The city previously approved a ban on camping on public property.
