Another earthquake jolts East Bay awake Sunday morning
"Some East Bay residents had another morning waking up to a jolt, as an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.2 shook on Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake, which struck at 7:29 a.m., had an epicenter on the west side of the Briones Regional Park, just to the north of Lafayette and east of Pleasant Hill, with the USGS reporting an approximate depth of nearly 10 miles."
"Sunday marks the fourth time in the past five weeks that an earthquake has struck in the East Bay in the morning. The largest shake came on Sept. 22, when a magnitude 4.3 earthquake with an epicenter in Berkeley was felt all around the region just before 3 a.m. Three days after that one, a 2.6 earthquake struck in the same area just before 6 a.m."
"The specific location in the Alhambra Valley has been a hotspot for minor earthquake activity in the past week, according to USGS data. The park had three minor earthquakes on Thursday afternoon, with a 2.3 shake around 2:15 p.m and both a 2.8 quake and a 2.5 shaker at different depths and epicenters at 3:36 p.m. On Sunday morning, a 1.5 foreshock struck just after 4 a.m. ahead of the bigger quake at 7:29 a.m."
A magnitude 3.2 earthquake struck the East Bay at 7:29 a.m., with an epicenter on the west side of Briones Regional Park and an approximate depth of nearly 10 miles. Weak to light shaking was reported in Berkeley, Pittsburg, Concord, Oakland and Vallejo. This event is the fourth morning earthquake in the East Bay in five weeks, following a magnitude 4.3 on Sept. 22, a 2.6 three days later, and a 3.1 on Oct. 16. The Alhambra Valley area has been a recent hotspot, producing multiple minor quakes and a 1.5 foreshock early Sunday. Minor aftershocks followed, the largest reported at magnitude 2.4.
