"For the second time in as many months, a body was recovered from the base of a rugged coastal cliffside in one of California's wealthiest towns. Palos Verdes Estates, the bucolic peninsula community south of much of the city of Los Angeles, is no stranger to tragedy along its steep coastline, including several deaths in recent years along the same stretch of road. On Thursday, Oct. 30, Palos Verdes Estates police officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Paseo Del Mar"
"This windswept corner of Los Angeles County has long been seen as a haven for the ultra-wealthy. With a reported average annual income north of $350,000, Palos Verdes Estates is occasionally considered to be California's richest suburb (though the moniker ultimately depends on what data is being collected, and by whom, as Atherton and other Bay Area enclaves also routinely earn similar superlatives)."
Two bodies were recovered at the base of a steep coastal cliff in Palos Verdes Estates within months, with the most recent discovery near the 1400 block of Paseo Del Mar on Oct. 30. Photos show Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel recovering an unidentified male along the rocky shoreline. No foul play has been suspected in either the October or an August recovery. In 2022, four people fell from the same broad cliff; one man, Jerardo Huitzil, died and others were injured. The area has high cliffs up to 300 feet, limited permanent fencing, and is an affluent community with pricey mansions.
