"My understanding is that there was initially two individuals that were towards the rear that were not initially swept away in the avalanche,"
"Everybody that was located at the bottom of the fall was in close proximity."
"The Nevada County Sheriff's Office also released the names of the victims, including the three Blackbird Mountain Guides, which had not been made public."
All nine bodies from California's deadliest known avalanche were recovered and removed by helicopter over two days. Intense snow and wind delayed search and rescue returns after the initial rescue of six survivors. Helicopters checked the scene, performed avalanche mitigation measures, and the California Highway Patrol search and rescue team entered the area. The team located the last missing person and removed five bodies; the final four bodies were removed the following day. Two individuals toward the rear were not initially swept away, while those at the bottom were in close proximity. The three Blackbird Mountain Guides were identified as Andrew Alissandratos (32, Verdi, Nevada), Nicole Chu (42, South Lake Tahoe) and Michael Henry (30, Tampa, Florida).
