All 25 fire stations are finally open again in Oakland
"We could not be more excited about the opportunity to reopen and serve our communities,"
"She lived longer because of you and because of your response time, and because of the type of emergency care that this fire station provided,"
"When one station is closed, it leaves a ripple effect across all the stations,"
"lots of mandatory overtime,"
Oakland Fire Station No. 10 in the Grand Lake neighborhood reopened in late May after closing in November 2022 for renovations. Stations 25 in Joaquin Miller Park and 28 in the Grass Valley neighborhood also returned to service after temporary closures from January through May caused by a city budget shortfall. The fire department and city officials held an open house at Station 10 and plan another open house at Station 25 on Sept. 13, with Station 28 having hosted an open house in May. Officials including the mayor and multiple councilmembers attended. Fire crews reported increasing call volumes, ripple effects from closures, and mandatory overtime caused by understaffing.
