After DUI arrest, man charged with murder relating to Calif. cold case
"On Nov. 25, 2008, Kern County officials responded to a home in North Edwards, a small community in California's Mojave Desert. The town, which is just a few miles away from the Borax Visitor Center and Edwards Air Force Base, measures 12.7 square miles and has just 1,000 people. Inside a residence on the 18000 block of B Street, authorities found the body of 78-year-old Thomas Charles Horton and ruled his death as a homicide. However, after the department exhausted all possible leads, the case went cold, and Horton's death remained a looming question mark."
"But on Oct. 11, 2025, a seemingly unrelated arrest led to a new development in the 2008 homicide. That day, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department arrested 35-year-old David Angulo on suspicion of driving under the influence. Angulo was later released, but during the investigation, officials discovered his possible ties to the Horton cold case. Six days later, he was arrested again and now remains in custody, where he faces a first-degree murder charge, online court records show."
"'The Kern County Sheriff's Office remains committed to pursuing justice for victims and their loved ones,' authorities wrote in the post, 'and will continue working collaboratively with partner agencies to bring resolution to cold cases.' Kern County Sheriff's Office representatives did not provide more information to SFGATE by the time of publication. Individuals with any additional information are encouraged to contact the county sheriff's office at 661-861-3110 or Kern Secret Witness at 661-322-4040."
