"A 3-year-old wolf arrived in the mountains north of Santa Clarita last Saturday. She was the first of her kind to come to the area in at least 100 years. She had come looking for a mate, and her window to find one in time to breed is narrowing. On Valentine's Day, she was in Kern County, between the cities of Tehachapi and Mojave."
"A wolf made history last Saturday when she wandered into the mountains of Los Angeles County, where her kind hadn't been documented in more than a century. She had come seeking a mate. Mid-to-late winter marks breeding season for wolves. The broad-muzzled canids are only fertile once a year - right around Valentine's Day. But the 3-year-old wolf - known as BEY03F - is spending the romantic holiday in Kern County."
A three-year-old female wolf, BEY03F, traveled into the mountains north of Santa Clarita and became the first documented wolf in that area in over a century. The wolf moved into Kern County by Valentine's Day while searching for a mate during the mid-to-late winter breeding season. Wolves are fertile only once a year, so the available window to mate is short and closing. BEY03F was born in Plumas County into the Beyem Seyo pack and left before several pack members were euthanized after livestock attacks. State GPS tracking shows she crossed county lines quickly.
