"BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KABC) -- A massive pileup involving more than 40 cars shut down part of Highway 58 in Bakersfield on Tuesday, and investigators believe fog may have been a contributing factor. California Highway Patrol received reports around 8:07 a.m. regarding a multi-vehicle crash blocking all eastbound lanes of State Route 58, east of Tower Line Road. A total of 43 vehicles were involved."
"Nine people were taken to hospitals, with the victims' injuries ranging from minor to major, according to authorities. Witnesses reported extreme dense fog in the area at the time of the crash. A Caltrans camera in the area showed whiteout, foggy conditions close to where the crash happened.
