"The tornado in Atwater touched down at 3:30 p.m. and lasted nine minutes with an estimated wind peak of 110 mph. Its path length was half a mile, and its width was 150 yards."
"Clovis resident Don Wright told Action News he was asleep when the EF-1 tornado tore through his property, destroying his family's horse barn. 'It was whipping. I had never seen it that powerful here in the Valley,' Wright said."
A Storm Survey Team confirmed three tornadoes occurred in Central California. The first tornado, an EF-0, touched down near Biola with winds of 70 mph. The second and third tornadoes were rated EF-1, with the Atwater tornado reaching 110 mph and causing significant damage. Witnesses expressed disbelief at the occurrence of tornadoes in the area, traditionally not known for such weather events. No injuries were reported, but property damage was noted, including a destroyed barn in Clovis.
