A massive sideshow in Crockett led to a 16-year-old, Jose Cuevas, falling from the Pomona Street on-ramp to westbound I-80 and dying after a 75-foot fall. CHP believes Cuevas climbed over a concrete safety barrier near the Carquinez Bridge before the fall around 3:30 a.m. Friends and family described Cuevas as happy, adventurous and respectful. The location has seen previous serious injuries during sideshows, including a teen critically injured in 2018 after a 50-foot fall. Contra Costa County Supervisor Shanelle Scales-Preston is pursuing an ordinance and coordination with agencies to impose fines, charges and preventative measures such as cameras and license plate readers.
