Nearly 500 GameStop locations have been marked for closure in early 2026. The chain reduced its U.S. footprint from roughly 2,325 locations at the start of 2025 and shuttered 590 stores by December 2025. The company announced plans to close a significant number of additional stores during its 2025 fiscal year, which ends January 31. CEO Ryan Cohen purchased another half million shares of GME stock amid the closures. A compiled list based on GameStop’s store location tool identifies over 470 affected locations across 43 states. Comparable brick-and-mortar retailers are executing similar reductions to cut costs.
